Silk pillows Silk pillows are very luxurious and they feel really good against the skin. Your baby will surely be comfortable resting his head against a silk pillow. Silk pillows are not only comfortable and luxurious, they are also very durable. Caring for a silk pillow properly can help preserve its beauty and make it last for a long time. When cleaning a silk pillow, hand washing is the recommended method of cleaning, unless it is specifically stated in the cleaning instructions that it can be machine washed. Wash it in lukewarm water and use a mild detergent, a non-alkaline soap, or baby shampoo. If there are stains on your baby's pillow, do not use chlorine bleach. Instead, use spot stain remover that is specifically created for silk. Rinse it immediately on in cool water. To get rid of any remaining soap residue, add a few tablespoons of distilled white vinegar to the rinse water. Avoid soaking a silk pillow for more than a few minutes. Hang the pillow to dry, but avoid direct exposure to sunlight. Exposure to direct sunlight for an extended period of time could damage the silk. Down Pillows Down pillows are very soft and comfortable. They are especially nice to have during cold winter nights. They are also very easy to maintain. First and foremost, keep your baby's down pillow inside a pillow case at all times to protect it from dirt, dust and body oil. You can also use a pillow cover with a zipper under the pillow case for an added layer of protection, especially for those who have allergies. Down pillows do not need to be washed often. In fact, the less you clean a down pillow, the longer it will last. Wash your baby's down pillow only once or twice a year. When it is time to launder your baby's down pillow, check for stains first if you are going launder it in the washing machine. If you find any, use a stain remover to spot-treat the stains. After treating the stains, wash the pillow in cold water. Use a mild laundry detergent that will not irritate your baby's skin. Opt for one that contains a degreaser so oils will be removed. Check the care instructions for particular detergents that you can use. After washing, gently squeeze out excess water from the pillow and then pop it into your dryer. Set the dryer on the lowest setting. To keep your baby's down pillow fluffy and lump -free put a tennis ball in the dryer. You can use a soft-ball or racket ball in place of a tennis ball. The important thing is the ball should be white or cream colored. If you do not have a white one, put the ball in a tube sock and then tie a knot to keep it inside.
